About me
Hello, my name is Jamie Jensen, MSW. I am currently the Director of the Distributed Learning (DL) Programs for the Department of Social Work at Humboldt State University. I earned my BASW and my MSW from Humboldt State University and have been a member of the faculty here since 2008. I am currently completing a doctoral degree in Human and Organizational Development with an emphasis in Aging, Culture and Society at Fielding Graduate University. I have experience in the areas of aging, program development, community planning, family caregiving, medical social work, care management, and group work. My teaching experience includes: micro and macro practice, organization and community systems, field practicum and social gerontology. I am currently teaching an integrated seminar for all of our MSW-DL students that focuses on building skills to support student success, strengthening community and integrating theory and practice to develop a professional identity.
I am interested in organizational and community development, community organizing, addressing structural inequalities as related to health and education access, transformation learning and transitional leadership. My passion lies in the study of organizational behavior and driving organizational effectiveness through leadership development, performance management, career and succession planning and employee engagement. The work I do in organizations and communities comes from a constructivist perspective and emphasizes the value of the organizational narrative and the co-creation of knowledge. My most recent community work has been at the organizational, community and policy levels in planning for our aging baby boomers. This includes work around aging friendly and walkable communities, complete streets, intergenerational housing and improving access to healthcare and education in rural communities.
