Arabic Music Translation

This blog offers translations of Arabic songs into English. Arabic transcriptions of the song lyrics are also provided, as are the transliterated lyrics. Where possible, the song has been added to the website as well so that users can listen to the song as well as read along. Users can request new songs to be translated, submit their own translations, and leave comments. Users can also search the site or click on a singer's name to be given a list of their songs that have been translated on the site.

Vocabulary Words: Media and the Arts

This list presents a basic set of vocabulary words that deal with categories of media and the arts, including verbs and nouns that deal with cinema, song, dance, plays, and film criticism. The list also contains verbs and nouns that cover key aspects of broadcast media. The majority of words contained within the website are nouns, and some verbs are interspersed. Each lesson starts with a short video, which you'll be asked to watch. Transparent Language (Review)

This website is a platform for products and services by Transparent Language, some available for free. It also includes a survival list of Arabic phrases in transliteration with audio recordings, Arabic tests and quizzes, an overview of the Arabic language, a blog, a word of the day in Arabic script and embedded in a sentence, and more. A link to their free Byki Express flashcards is also provided, as is a link to their online language classes.

Aswaat Arabiyya

Aswaat Arabiyya is an archive of 245 videos in Arabic, listed by difficulty level and accompanied by glossaries and four worksheets each that focus on every aspect of listening comprehension. Selections come largely from Arabic media, with some cultural presentations by native speakers. Videos cover the entire Arabic-speaking world and include MSA and different dialects. Materials are designed to be used both as in-class activities and homework assignments. Videos can be slowed down.

Quiz Ch. 4 Al-Kitaab

This is an example of an exam given at the University of Oregon that tests Chapter 4 of al-Kitaab, second edition, focusing on MSA. A written dialogue for the listening portion is included; instructors can pre-record it in their own voices or read it aloud during the exam. The key is also included. The exam should take one class period of 50 minutes.

Calligraphy Qalam

Calligraphy Qallam offers visitors information about the Arabic alphabet, various styles of scripts, and the process and history of calligraphy. It offers tutorial videos which demonstrate the various shapes of the Arabic characters both within one script and between different scripts.
