Utility of Materials Designed to Support Teaching: Superior (3)

I would feel confident in teaching this lesson given this resource and outline.

The teacher could add a way to see where children are at before the lesson begun, a way to see what their background knowledge includes. I would suggest an exit ticket before the lesson was wrapped up.

This lesson does an awesome job at meeting this requirement. This allows the students to gain confidence in their addition abilities.

I really enjoyed this lesson. As a pre-service teacher this is something I have bookmarked to use in the future for sure. Great lesson on teaching addition properties!

I really liked how you used explicit whole group and moved to individual or paired activities for further solidification of skills.

An entrance and exit ticket would help get a better idea of before and after knowledge in this instance. The before knowledge is partially touched during whole group however it is hard in that setting to see which people know the content goals individually.

This is a great example of how to take a standard and make it interactive and child centered. The learning experience offered gives the student room to grow and understand the communtative property in addition in their own time. It provides the ah-ha moment! Excellent work.

There is no subtraction used in this lesson. It has lots of addition using different properties but no subtraction.

This lesson would work well for small groups, pairs or as a teacher center

This works well for a first grade lesson, but I would recommend having more prepared to do as a class opener then a longer worksheet or perhaps turning the work sheet into a game where studnets work together. So it’s less about a worksheet and more about learning math in a fun way.
