Quality of Assessments: Strong (2)

Students follow specific procedures to complete much of the work. Using this as an assessment may yield faulty information.

Quality of Instructional and Practice Exercises: Limited (1)

Students are asked to follow a specific algorithm/path through the work. This does not necessarily support instruction of this content.

The 20/20 unit is best implemented as a STEM unit. Mathematics is related to science and engineering while students explore real world engineering applications within a mathematical context. Sixth grade CCSS Mathematics standards are focal for this lesson. The unit provides basic information for CCSS 6.SP.5 a-c. Modifications to the lesson design are needed to strengthen the degree of alignment to these standards.

Promoted as a 5th grade alignment for Colorado science standards, this unit addresses HCPS III SC.6.2.2 (explain how the needs of society have influenced the development and use of technologies).
